Designed as a salvage freighter, the gang’s main method of transport had to look both robust enough to transport/house large pieces of intergalactic scrap while still looking like it had the potential to quickly move through space. Some influences to achieve the final design included oil rigs, sport car engine blocks & the peterbilt 281 from the Steven Spielberg movie Duel. And in classic Sci-Fi ships tradition it was originally facing the other way (the back was the front) until the suggestion to flip it revealed a completely unexpected and preferred design.
